"But no one may know the shape of the tale in which they move. And, perhaps, we do not truly know which sort of beast it is, either. Stories have a way of changing faces. They are unruly things, undisciplined, given to delinquency and the throwing of erasers. This is why we must close them up into thick, solid books, so they cannot get out and cause trouble." This story is as thrilling and fun to read as it is beautiful. Catherynne M. Valente's writing is some of the most gorgeous, smart and magical I have ever had the pleasure of reading. There are very few books I have encountered where you feel like every single word is perfect, and used in a way you never thought to use it, and made better because of it. I can only tell you, all of you, to go and read this, because it would be a terrible shame if you missed out on it.
