Zu Beginn, als ich mir dieses Buch gekauft habe, ging ich mit der Einstellung heran: "Du musst dieses Buch lesen, denn schließlich ist es für das Abitur vorgeschrieben." Denn meine allgemeine Erfahrung mit Schullektüren war nicht gerade berauschend gewesen. Doch als ich begann "moon palace" zu lesen wurde meine Meinung langsam revidiert.
Zwar ist es beim ersten Mal lesen für mich etwas schwierig gewesen die Zeitsprünge nach zu empfinden, doch anfangs belanglose Kleinigkeiten bekommen später einen Sinn. Es ist sehr interessant, wie sich der Hauptcharakter versucht durchs Leben im Amerika der 60er/ 70er Jahr zu schlagen. Mir fiel es beim Verfolgen von Marcos Lebensgeschichte sehr leicht mich in das Buch hinein zu lesen und freue mich mitlerweile, dass es doch gute Schullektüren gibt.
Die Ausgabe ist auf Englisch und hat keine Vokabelerläuterungen. Das Buch ist jedoch ziemlich verständlich geschrieben, sodass nur im seltensten Fall ernsthafte Verständnisprobleme aufgetreten sind. Doch sind teilweise Zusatzinformationen sehr ratsam wie zum Beispiel die Erläuterung zu Marcos zweiten Vornamen Stanley (nach Henry Stanley, welcher den verschollenen Forscher Dr. Livingstone in Afrika wieder fand).
