A glimpse behind the curtain of a celebrity on and off the stage. After reading many reviews and recommendations, the time was right to build my own opinion. Despite being a novel on the romantic side, which is not my favorite, but I gave it a try. And I was blown right away by the style of writing, so refreshing and the words were appropriately chosen. In some parts, it seemed so real, the forthright telling impressive. The structured writings seem to be the author’s trademark, which makes the novel very easy to read and follow. Especially the significant parts I favored the most. There may be pieces of wisdom you could apply to your own life or others you better not. Particularly close to the end when everything unfolds, you begin grasping the meaning, that there is more than just the seven marriages of Evelyn Hugo. But what I didn’t expect was that end, conclusive but still sad. I would have thought of a happier end, but maybe the author saw this as more fitting. Now after completing it, I must say that I have enjoyed the novel. It’s a good choice for when you want to read something easy to understand, a nice read on a holiday. I will possibly look into the other books the author has written.

I loved this story (but with mixed feelings that left me confused)!

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

In this mesmerizing story, we follow Evelyn Hugo from living in poverty to becoming a Hollywood Icon, how she fights her way all the way up and we go with her through her bad, good and best times. And of course we learn about her seven husbands and why there were so many. Taylor Jenkins Reid really knows how to capture the attention of a reader by writing absolutely beautiful, and I think I will read more from her. Now here is why I still have mixed feelings. On one side, I can understand why she did some things to protect her career and who she loved. But for some things I have no understanding at all. I cannot sympathise with her and really dislike her in those situations. And I am not sure if we are supposed to love Evelyn as the strong female main Character or not. I do like that she admits that she is not a good person, because obviously she is not. I adored many of the other characters and disliked most of her husbands. I give it 4 stars because of he authors style, that is simply amazing, the setting of 50s Hollywood which is just so interesting and for the development of Monique.
