Five Survive

Nach A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER wollte ich unbedingt mehr von Holly Jackson lesen. Auch in FIVE SURVIVE konnte ich miträtseln und habe doch bis zum Ende nicht gewusst, wie alles zusammenhängt. Aber leider muss ich sagen, dass ich die Story nicht übermäßig spannend fand. Zwischendurch war es leider etwas langweilig und zog sich hin. Dennoch wollte ich unbedingt wissen wie es ausgeht, da die Grundidee ziemlich verrückt und interessant ist. Die Charaktere haben mich leider nicht beeindruckt. Red als Protagonistin blieb mir total fremd, da ich ihre Gedankengänge teilweise nicht verstanden habe. Sie hatte keinerlei Ausstrahlung und war ziemlich flach gehalten. Der einzige, dessen Entwicklung spannend war und der die Geschichte am Laufen gehalten hat, war Oliver. Plotwise, this book is rather different from her „A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder“ trilogy, but just as exciting. The story had me intrigued from page one and kept me guessing until the very end. Knowing from the start that the main character might not be the most reliable of characters somehow made the story even more riveting. I was as enthralled as I was surprised about how brutal this story turned out to be, but loved it all the same. We get to know the characters only slowly and apart from the secrets that are revealed, mostly on a surface level. There are some I desperately wanted to turn out to be the good guys, some I wasn‘t entirely sure about and one I just loved to hate with a passion. I don’t know what that says about me, but I am a big fan of the ending. I just wish the author hadn’t left us with so many unanswered questions. What about the vote? What about the consequences? What about the aftermath of everything that came to light in the RV? I’ll definitely keep my fingers crossed for a sequel. If you are a fan of high-stakes thrillers that not only play mind games with their readers but are also pretty bloody, you should definitely read „Five Survive“. Recommended for readers aged 14 and up. It’s probably not a book you’d want to bring on a roadtrip, though – provided you value a good night of sleep, of course. ...weiterlesen
