In „Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop“ geht es um Yeongju, die nach einem Burn-Out ihren Job kündigt und einen kleinen Buchladen in Seoul eröffnet. Der Buchladen wird zu einem Zufluchtsort für alle, die in ihrer Vergangenheit enttäuscht wurden, wie den einsamen Barista, den unglücklich verheirateten Kaffeeröster oder den Autor, der in Yeongju etwas ganz Besonderes sieht.
Die Geschichte hat sich wie ein warmes Zuhause angefühlt, denn man begleitet Yeongju in ihrem Alltag als Besitzerin eines Buchladens. Ich denke, viele von uns Bookies hegen den Traum, einen kleinen Buchladen, vielleicht sogar mit einem integrierten Café, zu eröffnen und in diesem Buch fühlt es sich so an, als würde dieser Traum zur Realität werden und man könnte diesen zwischen den Zeilen ausleben.
Es war so schön, dass man auf der einen Seite Yeongju dabei begleiten konnte, wie sie alltägliche Situationen eines Buchhändlers meistert und der Buchladen im Verlauf der Geschichte floriert ist, und man aber auch mehr darüber erfahren hat, wie sie mit dieser Lebensentscheidung zu hadern hat, da ihre Eltern von ihr enttäuscht sind. Man erfährt nicht nur den Leidensweg von Yeongju, sondern im Verlauf der Geschichte lernt man mehrere Nebencharaktere kennen, die verschiedene Schicksalsschläge erlebt haben, aber nun daran wachsen, und der Buchladen als ein Ort der Heilung und des Wachsens für Sie gedient hat.
Ingesamt eine tolle Geschichte, die einen vom Alltag abschalten lässt und entschleunigt, die ich allen Fans von „Slice of Life“ sehr ans Herz legen kann.

I absolutely love this book. Every chapter feels like a small treat - not a book to read in one go but rather enjoy it piece by piece :) the characters are troubled, but finding their way; their interactions are tender and touching. The pace of the book is slow and it's not about the plot but rather catching glimpses of the character's inner life. Very beautiful :)
