In TheMovingFinger geht es um anonyme Briefe, die eine junge Frau erhält und deren Inhalt so schändlich ist, dass sie kurz danach Selbstmord begeht. Doch ist dies nicht der einzige Todesfall, denn es wird einen weiteren Mord geben.
Ob diese wohl einen Zusammenhang besitzen?
Ich muss ehrlich gestehen, dass ich zu Beginn einige Probleme hatte, in die Geschichte reinzukommen. Das lag aber nicht an dem altenglischen Schreibstil, bei dem manche Worte heute eine ganz andere Bedeutung haben oder manche Aussagen heute als verrufen angesehen werden. Sondern viel mehr daran, dass das erste Kapitel eher einer Aneinanderreihung von verschiedenen Szenen glich, wodurch ich nach einiger Zeit den Faden verloren habe.
Als dann der Selbstmord geschah, hatte ich einige Hoffnung gehegt, was die Spannung anbelangt, doch leider blieb auch diese auf der Strecke, sodass sich das Buch für mich eher wie Kaugummi gezogen hat.
Erst gegen Ende des Buches taucht MissMarple auf, die nochmals später die Personen auf die richtige Fährte lockt, wenn man den Erzählungen Glauben schenkt. Bis zum Ende konnte ich nicht so recht nachvollziehen, was ihre eigentliche Rolle in dem Buch war, denn genauso gut hätte sie auch gar nicht auftauchen können.
Auch fand ich es etwas störend, dass die Polizisten als inkompetente Lachnummern dargestellt werden, was mir so stark bislang noch nie ins Auge gestoßen ist.

Richard Abernethie was murdered, or so his sister Cora Lansquenet claimed when the will was opened. Apparently with poison. According to this statement, Cora Lansquenet dies an unnatural death. The lawyer Entwhistle takes over the mediation and involves Hercule Poirot in his investigations. This is how an exciting crime novel begins, in which a bouquet of wax flowers plays an important role. Although Miss Marple is the detective in the famous film adaptation, that doesn't detract from the book.
