The Formation of a Persecuting Society

In this new edition of a classic in medieval history, R. I. Moore extends his original conception of the "persecuting society" with a new, final chapter, a new preface and critical bibliography. Addressing criticisms of the first edition, he considers the impact of a generation's research and refines his argument accordingly.

Robert I. Moore, geb. 1941, ist seit 1993 Professor für mittelalterliche Geschichte an der University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Davor lehrte er an der University of Sheffield (1964-1993) und als Visiting Professor an der University of Chicago (1989). Zu seinen wichtigsten Veröffentlichungen zählen The Birth of Popular Heresy (1975), The Origins of European Dissent (1977) sowie The Formation of a Persecuting Society (1987).
