After reading the last word I had to regroup my thoughts, my emotions, everything. And the characters haunted me for a long time which, for me, is always the sign of a good book. After reading the last word I had to regroup my thoughts, my emotions, everything. And the characters haunted me for a long time which, for me, is always the sign of a good book. But it is so much more. SO MUCH more. It would be easy to put it in the box entitled "immigrants in new culture and all the things that can go wrong". And yes, this is one of the many aspects which surely adds complexity to this densely woven narrative. After some weeks passing and having gained some perspective - this book really pulls you in deep! - isn't it about love, respect, expectations (met or not) and above all transparency of feeling and communication? So many lost opportunities, so many misunderstandings, so much anguish all because of a lack of honest dialogue. When we finally hear the father's voice I was sobbing. Don't wait to say what needs to be said. Speak with your heart and from the heart and take it from there. My No. 1 book in 2019.
