I think I hate Snow now more than ever

We learn more about the people and the history of Panem through the eyes of one person, who tries to survive in this terrible and nightmarish world. But this time the person is not a tribute, damned to fight in the Hunger Games, but non other than Katniss Erverdeen’s biggest foe: President Snow, the coldblooded tyrant, who ruled over whole Panem. But how did he become the dictator, who not only tortured and used everything in his arsenal to keep the districts and their inhabitants under control, but also liked to use poison against his rivals and people who tried to oppose him? What had to happen to make a person so evil, or was he maybe always like that? In this book, you’ll find the answer to all of those questions.

How President Snow became the one he is now! A suspenseful prequel!

Early into the Chapters of "A ballad of songbirds and snakes", I was struck by this extraordinary style of writing! Panem and all those new and old characters came alive in my head immediately. Early into the Chapters of "A ballad of songbirds and snakes", I was struck by this extraordinary style of writing! Panem and all those new and old characters came alive in my head immediately. Difference being only, that I now had a young power-seeking Coriolanus Snow in front of me, instead of poor but daring District 12 girl. What surprised me was, that in the beginning I actually liked the young soon-to-be-president and even understood his motives, his feelings, his life. I even felt sorry for him. It is more than remarkable that Suzanne Collins was able to get her readers to "like" such a hateful figure. The story exhibits a lot of parallels to the "Original" Panem Trilogy. That was not clearly obvious at first, but hidden in the whole plot and came to the surface slowly. More apparent was Lucy Grays similarity character-trait-wise to Katniss. I figured that this could be one of the reasons, why Snow hates Katniss so much...? A point that was outstanding as well, was all those symbols and figurative speech, which also could be transferred to Katniss' story. I also enjoyed getting to know lots of panems history and the origin of some really important events.. All in all, this book has given me a lot of knowledge about Panem and how Snow slowly changed from a bold boy to the cold and "venomous" tyrant of president we know. A Story full of suspense, love and intrigues! "A ballad of songbirds and snakes is a excellent prequel to "The Hunger Games"! Must-Read for all Panem-Lovers!
