Beschreibung

New York Times bestselling author Karin Slaughter brings back Will Trent and Sara Linton in this superb and timely thriller full of devious twists, disturbing secrets, and shocking surprises you won’t see coming

A mysterious kidnapping

On a hot summer night, a scientist from the Centers for Disease Control is grabbed by unknown assailants in a shopping center parking lot. The authorities are desperate to save the doctor who’s been vanished into thin air.

A devastating explosion

One month later, the serenity of a sunny Sunday afternoon is shattered by the boom of a ground-shaking blast—followed by another seconds later. One of Atlanta’s busiest and most important neighborhoods has been bombed—the location of Emory University, two major hospitals, an FBI field office, and the CDC.

A diabolical enemy

Medical examiner Sara Linton and her partner, Will Trent, an investigator with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, rush to the scene—and into the heart of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to destroy thousands of innocent lives. When the assailants abduct Sara, Will goes undercover to save her and prevent a massacre—putting his own life on the line for the woman and the country he loves.

Having read only the very first Will Trent novel, and the short story preceding this 9th installment of the series, I thought I might have troubles getting into the story. I did have troubles, but it wasn't for all the names and their relationships and connections to Will (this is becoming pretty clear quickly) but for the way of throwing the reader into the story. There are several points of view telling the same event differently, with every jump in time and place providing a new piece of the puzzle. It took me a while to see what picture is printed on the box of this puzzle. But after about a third into the novel I was finally 'in the flow'. I enjoyed reading about Sara and the IPA the most, even though these chapters are also the most gruesome. There are also longer parts where we cut back to Will or his colleagues, which were a little less exciting. Often they provided important background information on the IPA and all their connections, but it also slowed down the story for me a bit. I also liked the topic of this book, it is something that is fast becoming a big problem not only in the US but in Europe, too. I just hope that everyone reading the book realizes what trash Dash is talking! Also I didn't find his mission targets congruent with his ideology. ~~~~~~~~~~Attention: SPOILER! He preaches the glory of the white man, but then wants to randomly kill thousands of people, including lots of Whites? How should that 'help his cause' or change anything for the future? But on the other hand, terrorist attacks normally are never logical. SPOILER END~~~~~~~~~~~~ A very interesting thriller with a red-hot topic. For fans of the Will Trent series definitely a must-read.
