There is a general consensus that "Beloved" is Toni Morrison's greatest work. "The Bluest Eye" might have caught me more unprepared, as it was my first encounter with her style that constantly pulls the rug out from under the characters' and the readers' feet, but "Beloved" is an unforgettable read - even after more than a decad... Toni Morrison has the ability to put fortune and misfortune so close to each other that it is impossible to just feel one of the two. Thus, the ultimate human connection concurrently turns into a catastrophe that infinitely connects a mother with her two daughters. Anyone looking for nuanced literature will find it here!
