Beschreibung

Kafka Tamura runs away from home at fifteen, under the shadow of his father's dark prophesy.

The aging Nakata, tracker of lost cats, who never recovered from a bizarre childhood affliction, finds his pleasantly simplified life suddenly turned upside down.

As their parallel odysseys unravel, cats converse with people; fish tumble from the sky; a ghost-like pimp deploys a Hegel-spouting girl of the night; a forest harbours soldiers apparently un-aged since World War II. There is a savage killing, but the identity of both victim and killer is a riddle - one of many which combine to create an elegant and dreamlike masterpiece.

...weird

So this is the first Murakami book I've read and it's... weird? Like, the first half or so was a good kind of weird. It was interesting and new and different. And then it started drifting off into a not-so-good-kind-of-weird. I guess Kafka's Oedipus-like prophecy was too much for me. Just like that cat-scene. That was definitely... Oh lord, that cat-scene. Well, regardless, I liked his writing style - or rather the way it was translated. Quite some nice quotes plus his way of describing things is nice.

Mura is crazy, having the weirdest ideas while being able to convert it into written language

Philosophisch anspruchsvoll.
