Beschreibung

The Girl from Everywhere, the first of two books, blends fantasy, history, and a modern sensibility. Its sparkling wit, breathless adventure, multicultural cast, and enchanting romance will dazzle readers of Sabaa Tahir and Leigh Bardugo.

As the daughter of a time traveler, Nix has spent sixteen years sweeping across the globe and through the centuries aboard her father's ship. Modern-day New York City, nineteenth-century Hawaii, other lands seen only in myth and legend—Nix has been to them all.

But when her father gambles with her very existence, it all may be about to end. Rae Carson meets Outlander in this epic debut fantasy.

If there is a map, Nix's father can sail his ship, The Temptation, to any place and any time. But now that he's uncovered the one map he's always sought—1868 Honolulu, the year before Nix's mother died in childbirth—Nix's life, her entire existence, is at stake. No one knows what will happen if her father changes the past. It could erase Nix's future, her dreams, her adventures . . . her connection with the charming Persian thief, Kash, who's been part of their crew for two years.

Heidi Heilig's debut "The Girl from Everyhere" is an adventure/fantasy novel for young adults and the first book in a new series. Nix was born in 1868 in Hawaii, is currently in Calcutta of 1774 and will soon be in NYC of 2016. Are you confused yet? Don't be, it's easily explained: Nix and her father are able to travel through time and together with their crew aboard the "Temptation" they do just that. As long as there is a map to follow they can travel to any time and place, mythical or typical. Everything could be just fine, if it weren't for the tiny issue of Nix's father longing to travel to a certain time and place that threatened her very existence... In the beginning I wasn't quite sure where the story was going, but my confusion subsided quickly. I enjoyed the plot, fell in love with the characters and was grateful for the logical and easy-to-follow rules about time-travel, that keep the story grounded. This book full of lovable banter and just the right amount of sometimes dangerous adventure is also about friendship, love, family and self-discovery. Furthermore, it includes interesting historical facts as well as old legends and - to top it off - has a simply gorgeous cover. I am looking forward to reading the sequel next year and recommend "The Girl from Everywhere" to teenagers aged 12 and up.
