In 1925 Heydenreich began his studies at perhaps the most important place for the history of art in the 20 th century. He soon became part of the closest inner circle of his two mentors, Aby Warburg and Erwin Panofsky, whose teaching methods and research interests clearly inform their student’s notes. Heydenreich would later go on to be the founding director of the prestigious Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte.
