Meheba Refugee Settlement is a multi-cultural
community with refugees from different countries. It
was established in 1971, since then many children
have been born and educated in Zambia. The
settlement has had some form of educational
activities, however, support and assistance is
required in order to prepare refugees for the future
including post-conflict reconstruction. The writer s
work was based on investigating whether refugees had
enough education opportunities in terms of access to
school, support, gender parity, resources or other
interventions related to self-reliance in view of
repatriation of refugees to their countries of
origin. This book therefore, provides an insight to
the type of education opportunities refugees living
in this settlement have had since its establishment.
The findings will be useful to policymakers and
practitioners in the field of education and conflict
to evaluate their programmes and have a basis on
which to plan for further interventions.
