I was lucky enough to receive an advance reader copy of the book (the first in a trilogy). Didn't know what to expect (dont know the authors previous releases), but was open to something different. And different this book is. Alternative history (WWI Europe), with steampunk elements I hadn't seen before. Machines that look like animals and animals that function as machines. The author introduces two very capable teenagers from two very different cultures/backgrounds and with their adventures beautifully illustrated by Keith Thompson you've got a young adult book which should fascinate young and old.
