The secretion of bioactive products by tumors of the gastroenteropancreatic system results in the development of watery diarrhea that can lead to death in a very short period if not brought under control. Even if the consequences are less dramatic, the patients' ability to lead a normal daily life is seriously impaired, and they may become severely depressed.
