Rezension

Praise for the Series:
"Maintains the tradition and set-up of the previous volumes and certainly provides up-to-date data on varied aspects of cytology... a valuable acquisition to any library." --The Nucleus

Portrait

Raúl Torres-Ruiz graduated in Biological Sciences (2004) and obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology (2013) for his studies related to genome engineering and viral vectors. His research work is based on the development of Genome Engineering novel technologies. This new technologies are characterized by a high potential in the study of causes and mechanisms involved in the development of human diseases. He has implemented the CRISPR-Cas9 system to reproduce chromosomal rearrangements characteristics of human neoplasias. One of the main objectives of our group was the development of methods and tools for human cell gene editing with therapeutic purposes and to model human illnesses. During this time, I have also work in the generation of novel systems for virus delivery (AAV, Adenovirus y Lentivirus) improving their potential as tools for basic and applied experimentation. In fact, one of those systems has been translated in a patent license.
Sandra Rodriguez-Perales graduated in Biological Sciences (1999) and obtained her PhD in Genetics (2004) for her studies on cancer related chromosomal translocations. After that period, she was awarded with a Postdoctoral Fellowship and joined the LMB-MRC (Cambridge, UK) during which period her interest centred on the induction of chromosomal translocations in animal models. In 2008, she joined as Scientific Researcher in the Molecular Cytogenetics Unit (CNIO, Madrid) applying genome engineering for the reproduction of chromosomal rearrangements and point mutations in human stem cells. Since 2008, she has been co-responsible for the cytogenetic diagnosis of hematologic malignancies and solid tumours and for providing extremely specialised, cutting edge technologies in molecular cytogenetics such as Spectral Karyotyping (SKY), fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) for diagnosis and research, and array-based Comparative Genomic Hybridisation (aCGH) for the analysis of genomic aberrations. In 2008, she obtained the Clinical Cytogeneticist Licensure by the Spanish Association of Human Genetics (AEGH).
