Renal fibrosis is the final common pathway of a wide variety of chronic kidney diseases (CKD) leading to renal failure, which require dialysis or kidney replacement. Growth factors play a central role in the progression of this disease; among which the Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) may play a pivotal role in the developing of the fibrogenic disorder. CTGF a member of CCN family of growth factors is a cystine-rich secreted protein found in many body organs. It is a multifunctional protein involved in angiogenesis, extracellular matrix stabilization, tissue repair and fibrosis. In tissue injury, CTGF upregulation occurs, leading to accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins and tissue scarring. The present study is directed toward the blockage of the CTGF fibrotic activity in experimentally induced renal failure in mice using CTGF monoclonal antibody in an attempt to improve such a devastative kidney disease.
