It is with great joy that the editors of chis volume are, at long last, able to launch this book, Interpreting in the classroom: Tools for teaching. Several problems arose along the way, as well as the proverbial pandemic of 2020, but Translation and Inter- preting Studies, vol. IV, is finally seeing the light of day in 2021. This book intends to highlight key subject matter that was always in the minds of the editors, even if a difficult one to deal with: to gather together issues that practicing specialists in con- ference interpreting teaching are confronted with in their everyday activities. We still hear from some of our colleagues that, when teaching translation and interpreting, didactics "does not sell", that it is not a topic that is exotic or strange enough for specialists to devote any efforts to writing about how to teach what it is still today a difficult discipline to pass on to our students. However, many practitio- ners and researchers forget that the great personalities in interpreting research started by looking into how interpreting could best be understood with the idea in mind of ultimately teaching it better. So we could say that this book is the fruit of the work of a group of courageous professionals who do not shy away from showing how pro- cedures and exercises take actual form while in the class, and how applied theory can yield promising results."The chapter entitled "Apprentissage autonome de l'interprétation au niveau Mas- ter (Entraînement individuel et en groupe)", written by Ivana Cenková depicts, is a form of training adapted to the new digital technologies while analysing the develop- ment, contents and results of the "I-Coach" learning programme, which is currently used on the Masters course at the Charles University, Translation Institute, Prague. This type of learning system is described and analysed and a description is given of how students can analyse their work according to a list of criteria, either in class or online, and with the help of predefined tables. Both individual and group work are assessed.
