Jag Paul Sharma has good hold on different areas of agriculture as evidence from his 14 books on diverse aspect of agriculture and allied fields including this one. However, being basically a Plant Breeder, his research assignments were Senior Scientist, plant breeding RARS, Leh, Pulse Breeder at PRSS, Samba and Head, Division of Vegetable Science and floriculture at SKUAST-Jammu Main Campus, Chatha during this he contributed 13 crop varieties comprising six of cereals, six of vegetables and one of pulses. As an academician contributed 14 books, two on ladakh agriculture, three each on vegetable science, organic agriculture and six on general agriculture. He has published more than 100 research papers and technical communications.

As Director of Research he has been instrumental in establishing Organic Farming Research Centre, Basmati Rice Research Centre, Apiculture Research Centre and Mushroom Research Centre at Main Campus of SKUAST-Jammu. He could also mobilize funds to the tune of more than 100 crores to the University during his tenure through adhoc research projects from more than 24 funding agencies. He is member of various national committees of ICAR and DST, Govt of India. He is the founder president of non-profit professional society SIDAVES (Society for Integrated Development of Agriculture, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences, India).
