Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Pedagogy - Orthopaedagogy and Special Education, grade: 1,1, East China Normal University (Faculty of Education - Central China Normal University Wuhan, VRC), course: Special Education, language: English, abstract: This paper sheds light on the stigmatization of people with mental difficulties. It approaches this issue going a two-way street. One way of looking closely at stigmatization is taking the society as such into account. Another way is looking at the educational system, which by the term inclusive education plays a fundamental role with its values, roles and challenges. The paper will uncover what should be improved in the educational section as well as reveal consequences of stigmatization of children and youngsters with mental difficulties and how labelling them bears dangers. Finally, it will draw a conclusion as to whether or not we, as a society, and we, educational wise, are moving towards inclusion.
