¿¿¿¿ A remote island. A deranged scientist. A nightmare experiment that redefines what it means to be human. ¿¿¿¿
H. G. Wells's The Island of Doctor Moreau is one of the most disturbing and thought-provoking novels in science fiction-a dark fable of cruelty, morality, and the boundaries of scientific discovery.
Shipwrecked and stranded on a mysterious Pacific island, Edward Prendick uncovers the horrifying truth behind its reclusive master, Doctor Moreau-a scientist who uses vivisection to transform animals into grotesque human-like creatures. As Prendick witnesses this "House of Pain," he confronts the terrifying question: what separates man from beast?
Blending science, horror, and philosophy, Wells crafts a tale that challenges our faith in progress and probes the moral consequences of unrestrained experimentation. Written in 1896, the novel's themes of ethics in science, the abuse of power, and the fragility of civilization remain chillingly relevant today.
A landmark of early speculative fiction, The Island of Doctor Moreau inspired generations of writers and filmmakers-from Aldous Huxley to modern genetic-engineering thrillers-and continues to shock and fascinate readers with its brutal vision of creation unbound.
