Portrait

Masayuki Kitano works as an executive director of Japan Pancreas Society and of Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine and Biology, and councilor of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology and of Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society. He has authored 310 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 8 book chapters. Dr Kitano developed a novel endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) system equipped with contrast harmonic imaging which allowed visualization of tissue microcirculation and reported role of EUS for diagnoses of pancreatobiliary and gastrointestinal diseases, particularly of small pancreatic cancers. By these works, he received the Ito Award and the Matsuo Award from Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine, and High Citation Award of Journal of Gastroenterology. Also, he served as primary investigator on several multicenter studies related to pancreatobiliary endoscopy.
