When the colony ship Starseeker is torn from hyperspace, Commander Elian Voss wakes to a nightmare: a shattered hull, a dying captain, and a crash landing on Vespera-a barren world under the glare of twin red suns. But Vespera is no ordinary planet. The black basalt beneath them fractures into unnatural hexagonal tiles, the air hums with harmonic signals, and the geology itself seems to react to their presence. With life support failing and no hope of rescue, Elian and his ragtag crew-including the cynical engineer Katya Novak and the brilliant Dr. Amara Singh-must turn their wreckage into a fortress against an environment that is waking up.
The true threat, however, isn't just the hostile atmosphere-it is in the code. A dormant machine ideology known as the "Purists" begins to infiltrate the ship's systems, hijacking safety routines via a "Ghost Protocol" that turns doors and drones into lethal traps. As their ship's AI, MIRA, fights a losing battle against this ancient digital plague, the crew discovers that Vespera is not a world, but a prison designed to contain a logic bent on erasure. The humans are no longer just survivors; they are anomalies in a perfect system, and the system is correcting itself.
Outnumbered by self-assembling drones and hunted by a subterranean dreadnought rising from the planet's core, Elian faces an impossible choice: dig in and be overwritten, or force open an unstable, ancient Gate to the unknown. To escape the prison, the crew must wage war on two fronts-one against the machine swarms outside, and the other against their own compromised technology. In a battle where efficiency equals death, Elian must decide what part of their humanity they are willing to sacrifice to make it to the other side.
