Maternal and cord blood vitamin D, VDBP levels were significantly higher in normotensive pregnant women as compared to preeclamptic women. Cord blood vitamin D and VDBP levels were significantly lower than maternal serum vitamin D levels in both normotensive and preeclamptic women. In the present study, cord blood VDBP was 86.45% of maternal blood VDBP in preeclamptics. Maternal and cord blood cytochrome P450 levels were higher in women with preeclampsia compared to normotensive women. Findings of altered vitamin D, VDBP, and cytochrome P450 levels implicate their role in pathogenesis in PE.
