Meine letzte Rezension Carl's Doomsday Scenario von Matt Dinniman
Book no. 2 in this series was just as captivating as the first, if not even more. As Carls proceeds throughout the Dungeon's Floors, we get glimpses of the characters backstories, but just a little bit so you can't help but continue reading. There is so much character develpoment, especially with Donut! The fact that quests were added makes it more engaging, because even if those are just NPCs, it shows Carls good heart and intentions. Even though he more or less stumbles into them. Overall, it's an intense, fun and occasionally serious series with interesting characters that I can wholeheartedly recommend. The last time I was that afraid that someone I like might die was in A Song of Ice and Fire.

    Quicksilver

I qiuckly got so hooked by this book, the worlds, all the Characters and of course Kingfisher! Finally, there is a Romantasy story where spice isn’t overwhelming everything else, where things happen that really made me fear for but also celebrate the accomplishments of the characters (except for Daya, please die soon, thank you.) We have humans, faes, vampires, witches and probably even more otherworldy creatures. Kingfisher’s story is just as thrilling as Saeris’ and it was great to see him slowly open up to her. The story is a bit dark sometimes with the feeling of impending doom, so having Carrion as a comic relief was a good idea and very well balanced. I was often so surprised by the plot and never had the feeling of needing a break and I cannot wait for the second book!! If you love a growling Fae with shadow powers, the Enemies to Lovers trope paired with Fated Mates, you should not miss this one! ✨

    Witchcraft for Wayward Girls

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls is about teenage girls becoming mothers and then going back to being teenage girls. But it also is about revenge, finding out that the world can be very unfair, that sometimes you have to give up your own wishes in order to help someone and... just so much more then Witchcraft. I loved, loved loved this so much! Hendrix wrote a book that made me squirm, laugh and get so, so angry, all alongside with the girls. God, how angry I was with how the girls were treated, not just by the male doctors but also female nurses. And to think that places like this existed. There is so much happening that it's hard to put it all together into 1 or 2 sentences but if you love weird horror, getting angry at society and sticking together trough good and bad times, then this book might be for you.

    Divine Rivals

The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires

Patricia Campbell, a southern housewife, is living a boring life with her husband and 2 children, participating in a boring bookclub readin boring books. She takes care of everything plus her senile Mother-In-Law, who is slowly getting worse. But then a new bookclub is formed and now it is much more exciting, since its focusing on true crime and wine. Patricia thinks to herself “It would be exciting if something would happen here, in our neighborhood¨!” And then things actually do happen, bad things involving James Harris. James Harris who has a bag of money, no documents and his eyes hurt when looking in the sun… But is he really the man all the husbands adore? The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is quite a title. But its awesome, it made me mad and happy and sad! The characters, who are “just” housewifes, are well written and all different. Through the new bookclub, friendships are formed and the women realize how important these are. They discover how strong they are and everything thats happening is really testing their limits. But not just the bookclub, in my opinion other characters are very interesting, too. Looking at you, James Harris! I was really questioning myself, is he really evil or did Patricia go a bit too far in her true-crime-occupied mind? Find out yourself!

    The Song of Achilles

I must say, I was a bit sceptic at first. Retellings sometimes add fictional things to them and I’m not a big fan of that. But this one is wonderful. There is no “nonsense” , you can tell Madeline Miller knows her stuff. And not just that, Miller’s writing is so, so beautiful. Altough I knew how the story would end, it didn’t make it less sad. I think I’ll have to add this to my favorite books. I loved everything about it! For everyone whon is a fan of greek mythology, wonderful words and love.

The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store

It all starts in 1972 with a corpse found at the bottom of a well. But who was this person and how did it get there in the first place? What starts as some kind of murder mystery will become a much deeper story about the community of Chicken Hill in the 1930s, where immigrant jews and african americans share what they have, live together and try to understand each others struggles. When I started reading this novel, I did not know what to expect, since I went into it kind of blindly. But what I got was a beautifully written story with many different characters, all connected in some way or another, love, humor, suspense but also unjustice. I was sometimes wondering where all the different strands and stories will go, but James McBride did an amazing job in bringing it all together so that it all makes sense in the end. I can wholeheartedly recommend this novel. It was the first one of this year and I will definitely remember it!

    Convenience Store Woman

This was a very interesting read. As Keiko sees herself more as a conveniece store worker then a human, she struggles to understand all the fuss about having kids and a career and all that. Maybe, she thinks, Shiraha can help, as he is looking for a wife anyways, so that society will leave him alone as a married man. Shiraha, her former Coworker, can only be described as an Incel, in my opinion, and I disliked him so much! I was genuienly worried for Keiko wehn she let him move in with her. The mix of those two people was definitely something else, but so riveting to read! I feel I could say so much more about this book and discuss it in great detail but all I will say for now is, it’s a fascinating book with a thought-provoking content, even if it’s so short.

    A Little Life

The story follows Jude and his 3 friends Willen, Malcolm and JB throughout their college years and later lifes, where at some point, the 3 recognize that they know very little about Jude’s past, only that he has no parents and something is wrong with his legs. Jude himself doesn’t want to share his past, and he has very good reasons for this. But page after page the readers will learn about it and his struggles he is facing now, his demons and how he sees himself. It’s not an easy journey, not at all, but worth every page. When I read this novel, so many things were going through my mind, and sometimes, when I had put it aside for a few days, Jude and his companions were still lingering somewhere in my mind. It’s full of heart wrenching moments, but also hopeful. I loved how the author was able to describe the complicated feelings humans can have, frustrations, emotions and all kinds of love towards each other. This book will rip your heart out, put it back in and cover the wound with a small bandaid in the most beautiful way.

    The Strawberry Patch Pancake House

Gosh, I love this cheesy series so much! ❤ Heartwarming AND hot! ❤ In book 4, we follow Archer and Iris. Both with zero experience with kids and lot to learn about them, he as Olive’s Dad and Iris as her nanny. I loved how they both figure things out together and support each other. How Archer is ready to leave his old life behind for his daughter and really tries to build a new life in Dream Harbor. And that Iris learns what it means to be a family, that mistakes will be made and that it will be ok. Olive is such a cute kid and I can understand how Iris, even though not a fan of children (ironic since she is the nanny), grows very fond of her. And of course, the quirky townsfolk! Old characters return and Iris has a great support system with her friends, who stand by her side no matter what. The story took a turn that I didn’t expect at first but for me, it was a perfect ending that melted my heart away! And let’s not forget the spicy tension between Iris and Archer because the author is getting better and better with each book.
