""Molly the Drummer Boy: A Story of the Revolution"" is a historical fiction book written by Harriet T. Comstock. The story is set during the American Revolution and follows the adventures of Molly, a young girl who disguises herself as a boy in order to join the Continental Army as a drummer boy. Molly's bravery and skill as a drummer earn her the respect of her fellow soldiers, but she must constantly work to keep her true identity a secret. Along the way, Molly experiences the hardships of war and witnesses the sacrifices made by those fighting for American independence. The book provides a unique perspective on the role of women during the Revolutionary War and highlights the importance of determination and courage in the face of adversity.1900. The author writes a word before beginning: Molly was an odd name for a boy, you will say, especially for a soldier boy, and a brave one at that. But before you can understand, you will have to read my story. When you have finished I feel quite sure that you will do what I did after reading the bit of old history; give a hearty thought of thanks to the brave drummer, who, during the war of the Revolution passed like a gleam of brightness, fun-and alas! sadness through the scenes of war and bloodshed; winning the friendship of all, the esteem and consideration of General Washington himself, and lastly a page or so in history. From the past I lead you forth, oh? hero of long ago, and present to you the hero and heroine lovers of today, feeling sure that a warm welcome awaits you. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
