""The Essays of Michael Lord of Montaigne"" is a collection of philosophical and personal essays written by Michel de Montaigne, a prominent French writer and philosopher of the Renaissance period. The book is translated into English by John Florio, an Italian-English translator and writer who lived during the same period as Montaigne. The essays in this book cover a wide range of topics, including human nature, morality, education, politics, religion, and culture. Montaigne writes in a conversational and introspective style, often reflecting on his own experiences and observations. He challenges traditional beliefs and values, advocating for individualism and skepticism. The book is divided into two volumes, with each volume containing several essays. The first volume includes essays on topics such as friendship, cannibals, and the education of children. The second volume includes essays on topics such as the art of conversation, the power of the imagination, and the importance of solitude. Overall, ""The Essays of Michael Lord of Montaigne"" is a seminal work in the history of Western philosophy and literature. It is considered one of the earliest examples of the essay genre, and its influence can be seen in the works of later writers such as William Shakespeare and Ralph Waldo Emerson. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
