Sketches of Western Methodism is a book written by James B. Finley that provides a comprehensive look at the history and development of Methodism in the western United States. The book is divided into three sections: biographical, historical, and miscellaneous. The biographical section contains sketches of prominent Methodist figures, including circuit riders, preachers, and laypeople. The historical section provides a detailed account of the growth of Methodism in the West, including the establishment of churches, the role of women in the church, and the impact of the Civil War on Methodism. The miscellaneous section covers a variety of topics related to pioneer life, including frontier justice, Native American relations, and the challenges of living in a new and often hostile environment. Throughout the book, Finley provides a vivid and engaging portrayal of life in the West during the 19th century, drawing on his own experiences as a Methodist preacher and circuit rider. Overall, Sketches of Western Methodism is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Methodism in the United States, as well as for those interested in the history of the American West. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
