The Tenures of Kent is a book written by Charles Isaac Elton that provides a comprehensive account of the feudal system of land tenure in the county of Kent, England. The book explores the origins and development of the system, tracing its evolution from the Anglo-Saxon period through to the Norman Conquest and beyond. It examines the various types of tenure that existed in Kent, including freehold, copyhold, and leasehold, and the rights and obligations that were associated with each. The book also delves into the social and economic context of the feudal system, exploring the role of lords and tenants, the impact of land tenure on the local economy, and the ways in which the system shaped the social structure of Kentish society. Drawing on a wide range of historical sources, including legal records, charters, and chronicles, The Tenures of Kent provides a fascinating insight into the workings of the feudal system in one of England's most important counties. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
