The Journal of William Dowsing of Stratford is a historical book that documents the life and work of William Dowsing, a parliamentary visitor who was appointed under a warrant from the Earl of Manchester. The book was written by Dowsing himself and published in 1885. The journal provides a detailed account of Dowsing's travels throughout England, where he was tasked with visiting various churches and chapels to remove any signs of Catholicism or idolatry. This was part of a larger effort by the Puritan Parliament to reform the Church of England during the 17th century.Dowsing's journal is a valuable historical document that sheds light on the religious and political turmoil of the time. It also provides insight into the mindset of a Puritan activist and the methods used to enforce religious conformity. The book is written in a straightforward, factual style, making it a useful resource for historians and scholars interested in this period of English history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
