""The Crisis in Morals: An Examination of Rational Ethics in the Light of Modern Science"" is a thought-provoking book written by James Thompson Bixby in 1891. The book delves into the ethical crisis that was prevalent in the late 19th century and explores the ways in which modern science can provide rational solutions to moral dilemmas.Bixby argues that the traditional religious and philosophical approaches to ethics were no longer sufficient to address the complex moral issues of the time. He suggests that a new approach is needed, one that is grounded in reason and empirical evidence. The author examines various ethical theories, including utilitarianism and Kantianism, and evaluates their strengths and weaknesses. He also explores the role of evolution and natural selection in shaping human behavior and morality.Throughout the book, Bixby emphasizes the importance of rational thinking and scientific inquiry in developing a more ethical society. He argues that by applying the principles of modern science to ethics, we can create a more just and moral world.Overall, ""The Crisis in Morals"" is a fascinating exploration of the intersection between science and ethics. It provides valuable insights into the moral challenges of the late 19th century and offers a compelling argument for the importance of rational ethics in the modern world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
