nice read but...
...not a must-read. It is an interesting story, however, there are too many long-winded threads which lead nowhere. Characters are being introduced that do not contribute anything to the plot and then they suddenly disappear. At times I was wondering whether Brin was trying to fill extra pages by recycling some short stories he had written before.
