First published in 1899, these Gifford lectures by James Ward (1843-1925) argue for Idealism over Naturalism and Agnosticism. Volume 1 criticises the Mechanical Theory as a way of accounting for human experience in purely scientific terms. Volume 2 examines how consciousness is inseparable from the physical world.
