Our narrator is haunted. No, but quite literally preoccupied by a past lover.
The book is divided into four different sequences, each one a various story on how to view life. And as we know Ali Smith, obviously with a touch of critical thinking and questioning social morals and the system. This story, as so many of her, is written in a beautifully poetic language and doesn't miss a joke about life as we have it right now. With her funny and deep way of composing she forces us to deal with the idea of art and literature. "Artful" slips between fiction and essay. And so does one's perception of art in the end.
Definitely her most creativ and dreamy work.
