Mit dem Vampir-Boom sind viele Thematiken rund um Vampire ziemlich verbraucht, doch Richelle Mead hat mit der Vampire Accademy-Reihe wieder eine weitere fesselnde Facette zu diesem beliebten Thema hinzugefügt.
Der erste Band führt den Leser in die Welt von der Vampiren Lissa und ihrer besten Freundin Rose, die trainiert um Lissa's Bodyguard zu werden, ein.
Die Freundschaft der beiden Mädchen zieht einen von Anfang an in die Geschichte, während nach und nach mehr Personen (wie z.B. der gutaussehende Dimitri) und weitere Handlungssträge eingeführt werden (wobei die ganze Geschichte jedoch aus Rose's Perspektive erzählt wird).
Rose selbst ist eine etwas aufmüpfige, aufgeweckte Persönlichkeit, deren Herz am rechten Fleck steht. Ihre Erzählstimme ist daher lebendig und sehr amüsant auch wenn man gelegentlich über ihre Impulsivität den Kopf schütteln muss, weshalb man das Buch (und auch die folgenden) nicht mehr aus der Hand legen kann.
Lesespass ist garantiert... der einzige Haken ist, dass man die Bücher viel zu schnell durchgelesen hat...
