These are key questions that this volume seeks to answer. Ann-Marie Einhaus is Senior Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Literature at Northumbria University. She is the author of The Short Story and the First World War (2013) and editor of The Cambridge Companion to the English Short Story (2016). Katherine Isobel Baxter is Reader in English Literature at Northumbria University. She is the author of Joseph Conrad and the Swan Song of Romance (2010), and co-editor, with Robert Hampson, of Conrad and Language (2016).
