Sara de Vos lived in the 17th century; in the Netherlands she was the only female painter, who has left behind a landscape painting. Ellie Shipley, who imitated this painting in the middle of the 20th century, will be confronted with this copy several decades later.
And there is the rightful owner, who seeks revenge and goes a way of betrayal. A story of tough women, art and falsification, love and repentance, but in the first place it is an exciting and enjoyable book and one of the best novels which were published in the last year.
