The evolution of modern currency in the UAE reflects its economic growth from the underdeveloped years prior to the formation of the new state into a powerful global financial hub. These developments saw the abandonment of the Gulf rupee as the official currency and the adoption of the Qatar & Dubai Currency Board riyal in most emirates. As the Trucial States evolved into the United Arab Emirates they created a currency board prior to the formation of a central bank. This book details the process and problems resolved on the way. The text draws heavily on statistical analysis for the time period drawn from UK archives.
