If you enjoy reading distopian fiction, you really shouldn't miss this book. It is entertaining, suspenseful, thought-provoking and eerily plausible. Highly recommended!

Jayne Cowie's debut is a rather provocative read that will keep its readers hooked from the very first page. Roughly thirty years from now, men in the UK are electronically tagged and not allowed outside of their homes between 7 pm and 7 am. Implemented in order to reduce rapes and femizides, Curfew has worked really well so far. Until there's a young woman's body found, that is. Due to the restricitons, no man should have been able to commit this horrible crime, but is the system that has worked so perfectly for over two decades really as infallible as it's supposed to be? Or is there, in fact, a female killer on the loose? After reading the blurb, there wasn't a doubt in my mind - I had to read this book. "Curfew" tells a pretty provocative story that some might find a little far-fetched, but to be honest, I am not so sure about that. I don't know about you, but the notion of implementing a curfew for a certain group of people doesn't sound as ludicrous to me as it would have only a couple of years ago. The story follows four women in different stages of live: a police officer about to retire who knows all too well what life on the force was like before, a teacher who is currently trying to get the certificate that will allow her to move in with her boyfriend, a mother who works as a tagger and her teenaged daughter who sees the restrictions as barbaric, unjustified and unnecessary. I really enjoyed reading this book a lot. I love that we get four so vastly different points of view, the characters are complex and the murder investigation adds even more suspense to the story. If you enjoy reading distopian fiction, you really shouldn't miss this book. It is entertaining, suspenseful, thought-provoking and eerily plausible. Highly recommended!
