soft sci-fi with a bit of a bite

read it as an eBook, liked it so much I bought a physical copy. A 'soft' sci-fi book with a complicated, not easy to like protagonist, competently plotted, doesn't drag. I did not expect the story to take the turns it did, but enjoyed the ride and was thoroughly delighted by the originality of it all. if you like e.g. Gillian Flynn's take on female characters you might enjoy this one.
