Intense!

It took a while for me to really get into the story, the first chapters being more slow-paced but still entertaining to read with the old-timey South American slang. The characters in the book appeared three-dimensional to me immediately and I felt like hearing famous actors’ voices in my head when reading the dialogues. As soon as the real action starts, the book is hard to put down! I was holding my breath during some of the paragraphs and bent forward to make a character run faster! The little girl Pearl though is a little bit overly annoying sometimes (in my opinion), as well as Willa. For some time I wasn’t happy with the way women were represented in the book because of that but I guess that’s because the story is old, … and Rachel did help me to feel much better about the women in the book in the end. I especially really liked the ending of the book :D (but I won’t spoil it)
