Portrait

Prof. Alberto Tagliaferro got his degree in Nuclear Engineering and his PhD in Physics at Polytechnic of Turin. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Science and Technology of Polytechnic of Turin. He is head of the Carbon Group, a research group he founded in 2002. His research interests are currently focused on biochar and carbon dots production and applications. He is Adjunct Professor at OntarioTech University and editor of Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology (CREST) by Taylor and Francis, Reviews on Advanced Materials Science by De Gruyter and Micromachines by MDPI. He is Chair of the Education Committee of IUVSTA (International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications).

Dr. Roger M. Leblanc is Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry, University of Miami, USA. He received his B. S. in chemistry (1964) and Ph.D. in physical chemistry (1968) from Université Laval, Canada. From 1968 to 1970, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. George Porter, FRS, in Davy Faraday Research Lab, the Royal Institution of Great Britain. He was appointed as professor in 1994 and chair of Department of Chemistry at University of Miami from 1994 to 2002 and again from 2013 to 2021. He was editor or in the editorial board of many journals including Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces and frequently invited as NSF grant panel reviewers. He has published around 600 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and as professor, he has supervised more than 120 M.S. and Ph.D. students.

Emeritus Professor Madhuri Sharon is Research Director at the Sharon Institute of Nanotechnology, Parishkar College of Global Excellence, India. She is also Research Director at the Walchand Centre for Research in Nanotechnology and Bionanotechnology, India; Visiting Professor at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, India; Managing Director of Monad Nanotech Private Ltd and Director of NanoWealth LLP. Prof Sharon has written and edited more than 16 books and has more than 10 patents to her name.

Dr. Mattia Bartoli is a Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Future Technologies, Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He previously worked at the Biorefinery Research Group, hosted by University of Alberta, developing new materials and new technologies. During this period, he worked closely with ForgeHydrocarbon, a spin-off company of the University of Alberta, solving several issues of the innovative lipid-to hydrocarbon technology for renewable hydrocarbon production. In 2018, he joined the Carbon Group at the Polytechnic University of Turin where he studied both the production and use of carbon from thermochemical conversion of waste streams for material science applications. Furthermore, Dr. Mattia Bartoli is strongly interested in the advancement of materials such as carbon nanodots and bismuth-based materials for biological and electrochemical applications.
