Edward Morgan Forster (1879-1970) was an English novelist, essayist, and literary critic. Educated at King's College, Cambridge, he became one of the most important British writers of the twentieth century. His best-known novels include A Room with a View, Howards End, and A Passage to India. With wit, sensitivity, and psychological insight, Forster explored class divisions, social conventions, personal freedom, and the difficulty of forming genuine human relationships. His novel Maurice, written in the early twentieth century, was published posthumously in 1971.
