Ich habe nur gelesen weiblicher Zorro und somit wollte ich das Buch unbedingt lesen. Es ist ein erstes Band einer Reihe. Das mich überrascht hat und auch irgendwie enttäuscht. Fangen wir am Anfang an. Pantera ist unser "Zorro", die für Gerechtigkeit sorgt und für ihre Landsleute. Natürlich lebt sie im Palast und in der Nähe der Mächtigen in diesem Abschnitt des Landes. Das war einfach toll zum Lesen. Spannend, aufregend und die Wortgefecht teilweise auch humorvoll. Die Seiten sind so dahin geflogen. Da tauchte ein Dieb, Pirat auf und sorgt für ärger. Da war ich noch mehr aufgeregt und wollte nicht mehr aufhören zu lesen. Pantera hat auch ein Geheimnis, das für mich noch mehr Glücksgefühle ausgelöst hat. Falls ihr jetzt fragt, wo ist die Enttäuschung. Nun es begann nach knapp der Hälfte des Buches, es kam ein weiteres Thema dazu und das war nicht schlimm, im Gegenteil. Es brachte noch mehr Spannung rein. Sorgte aber dafür das mein "Zorro" verloren ging. Das andere Thema hat sich alles einverleibt und hat kaum etwas zurückgelassen. Eine fast schon 180 Graf Drehung, die mich etwas irritiert hat. Ja, es gab kleine Hinweise schon früher, dass etwas im Busch ist, doch die Entwicklung hat mir nicht gefallen. Es wurde düster, man konnte niemand mehr trauen und auch sich selbst nicht mehr. Was ist wahr, was ist Illusion? Am Ende hatte ich das Gefühl zwei verschiedene Bücher gelesen zu haben.

Sun of Blood and Ruin by Mariely Lares is the first book in the Sun of Blood and Ruin Series.   This story is set around Mexican history and Mesoamerican mythology and I really liked those aspects in the book. I already knew a bit about it and that’s also what made me interested in this book. At the same time, I feel like that if you don’t know anything about this topic, you might have a difficult time following along.   The protagonist Leonora is a respectable lady and a crown jewel promised to the heir of the Spanish throne. However, what no one knows is that she is also the legendary Pantera, a masked vigilante, who sympathizes with the rebels and helps those in need. That made her truly a badass and I absolutely loved her character. She is a person who doesn’t just accept what is happening in the male dominated world she is living in.   The plot started out very slowly and I needed a few pages to get into this world. But it picked up when the world was threatened by an ancient prophecy of destruction. It was really fascinating to learn more about this prophecy and to see how the characters reacted to it.   Overall, I really liked this book and if you also like Mexican history and Mesoamerican mythology, you need to check out this story. 4,5 stars.   (ARC kindly provided in exchange for a review.)
