For She Is Wrath

Ich habe mir ursprünglich das Buch geholt, da ich das Cover richtig schön fand und der Klappentext gut klang. Aber die Storyline, die Charaktere und der Schreibstil haben mich einfach gepackt! Dieses Buch war so gut geschrieben, die Autorin hat so einen lebhaften Schreibstil, dass du eigentlich nur mitfiebern kannst, während Dania und Noor Schritte einleiten um ihre Rache zu bekommen. Die Plottwists, der Hass, den Dania verspürt, hat man richtig gespürt gegenüber denen, die sie hintergangen haben. Dieses Buch hat mich aus meinem Reading Slump rausgebracht. :))

"You're making me nervous. This is how you look right before you are about to stab me." - S.277 Ich wusste nicht so recht was ich erwarten soll und ich würde überrascht. Maz und Dania sind sehr interessante und tiefgründige Charaktere. Sehr verletzt und getrieben. Mehr möchte ich zu den beiden nicht verraten. Durch verschiedene Flashbacks erfährt man viel über sie und wie sie geworden sind wer sie sind. Das will ich euch nicht vorab weg nehmen. Der Beginn im Gefängnis war wirklich sehr interessant, vor allem als Noor dazu kommt. Je mehr Ereignisse geschehen sind, desto überraschter und überzeugter war ich. Die Wüste und das Land waren so interessant und haben einen gewissen vibe gebracht. Ich liebe die Pläne, die Intrigen und die Wendungen mit allem Tiefgang und allen Emotionen die hier geboten worden sind. Es war tragisch aber auch ehrlich mit einem Ende wie es passender nicht hätte sein können. Nur etwas mehr zu den Djinn hätte ich gerne erfahren. Sonst war es rundum perfekt für mich.

For She Is Wrath surprised me! a pakistani retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo with a lot of female rage and not that much fantasy, nor romance as i thought (in a good way). i didn't read the blurb, but the first chapter already hooked me. maybe i can interest you in this book with this: Dania has been counting days since she was falsely imprisoned and attempts another escape... and fails.

This book is an interesting reflection on the cost of revenge and how it can consume people. I really liked the idea of this book, a girl falsly imprisoned trying to take down an empire. Sadly, the worldbuilding didn't quite capture me and even though I really liked the characters, their journey seemed too easy at times and I felt that for the emperor to be believably scary and evil there should have been more information about him and his rule and especially the impact it had on his people. The fact that the protests were only mentioned on the side and not really explained didn't evoke any sense of a revolutionary time. I guess the book wanted to make the point that above all else the characters were pursuing the emperor for self-serving reasons, but I still wish that the scale of the story wouldn't have felt so small.
