Der vorliegende Band schärft das Bild des in der Wissenschaft bisher vernachlässigten jungen Johannes Brahms und versucht, die hinter dem Frühwerk (Opera 1 bis 10) stehende Ästhetik zu erfassen. Lea Kollath richtet dabei den Fokus auf die Affinität des Komponisten zur romantischen Literatur. Sie zeigt, dass der junge Brahms nicht nur mit Begeisterung die romantischen Texte im Allgemeinen und jene von E.T.A. Hoffmann und Joseph von Eichendorff im Besonderen rezipierte, sondern dass die Grenzen zwischen realer und poetischer Welt für ihn zum Teil verschwammen. Das schlägt sich dann auch in seinen frühen Werken nieder. Der intermediale Blick auf diese Kompositionen eröffnet neue Zugänge und deckt latente semantische Dimensionen auf.
This volume sharpens the image of the young Johannes Brahms, which has tended to be neglected by scholars to date, and attempts to grasp the aesthetics behind his early works (opuses 1 to 10). Lea Lollath focuses on the composer's affinity to Romantic Literature. She shows that the young Brahms not only enthusiastically received Romantic texts in general and those by E.T.A. Hoffmann and Joseph von Eichendorff in particular, but that the boundaries between the real and poetic worlds became partially blurred for him. This is also reflected in his early works. The intermedial view on these compositions opens up new approaches and uncovers latent semantic dimensions.
