God of Malice - 4 star dark romance

So, I've finally popped my Rina Kent cherry and holy crap - it's about time! Lots of women love her books and the only criticism I stumbled across was that many say she recycles her characters over and over and that her writing style is not always the best. The chances of this being a good book for me were extremely high from the beginning, but my expectations were exceeded. In fact, I felt like I had fallen victim to a drug that had me hooked in no time. I did not want to put the book back down again. Our FMC is Glyndon King, 19 years old and the youngest of three siblings. She comes from a talented family of artists. She paints, as do her mother and two brothers. The pressure she feels from being compared to the others weighs heavily on her. What's more, all three siblings go to the same elite university. At the beginning of the story, Glyndon loses her best friend, who studied at the rival university next door. This ultimately pulls the rug out from under her feet and causes her to fall into a deep hole and she doesn't know how to get out of it again. On a night trip to the place where she lost her best friend, she unexpectedly meets a stranger who turns her world upside down. As this was my first book by Rina, I can’t comment on the criticism that she rehashes the same character types over and over again. Her writing style is not exceptional, but it still kept me captivated. I flew through the pages in record time. The actual plot only takes up a fairly small part of the story, but that was definitely intentional. The focus of the story is on the two main characters and the relationship dynamics between them, and I think Rina did a respectable job with that. The development curve that our two main characters go through until the end of their story is enormous and I really enjoyed being a part of it. Killian is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. :P Apart from the fact that he has a spectrum disorder that makes emotions a foreign word to him, while also being highly intelligent, he also brings a fair amount of ego and violence to the table. Glyndon is a well-written and interesting character, but Killian is fascinating, and he made me so curious about him. I really enjoyed being able to get a look inside his head. His perspective and thought processes were so different and thrilling. Add to that his possessive nature and a dirty mouth and et voila – you got yourself the perfect mix of sexy, interesting and dark. The balancing act between these two very different characters, the way they find each other and how they learn to complement each other. Loved it! I also need to mention that I liked the supporting characters. They are always part of the story, but without revealing much about them, but this is intentional, as each of the supporting characters gets their own story as the series progresses. God of Malice is just the prelude. I will continue this series and am already looking forward to the next book. Finally, some well-intentioned advice. This story contains quite a few triggers, so please check out the “shopping list” in advance. We're in adult territory here, even if the protagonists are still at university and around the age of 20. Thank you for reading <3

M0NSTER!
