What brings joy into our lives, especially in times of trouble and distress? What increases our joy in times of happiness and fulfillment? Perhaps you have asked yourself these question or perhaps you have moments when you need a reminder of better times. Truly, as the scriptures remind, men are that they might have joy (2 Nephi 2:25). In our day, many of our brothers and sisters, some in and some out of the Church, are experiencing events in their lives that might lead them to forget the promise of those words that we are that we have joy. Knowing this we contacted members of the church throughout the world to ask them, What has brought you some of your greatest joys in belonging to the Church?
It took several years for us to gather the material found in this book, material from good people from four years of age to over ninety, people who have found moments of joy in the small, everyday experiences of living, and people who have known great moments of spiritual manifestations. These experiences, great and small, typify the joy that many of us have in this life through the gospel. We hope that as you read these beautiful experiences that you will feel the love and hope that they so warmly present. We hope these experiences of joy and sorrow will be helpful as you prepare talks, face trials, or thoughtfully meditate about the joys the gospel has brought in your own life. We hope too, that as you enjoy and use this book that you will find joy in sharing your experiences with others.
